Space age pop* music for the troubled mind
The Luyas are a female fronted four-piece band from Canada, who have lots of good and famous friends (Owen Pallett, Colin Stetson...) who worked with them on this sophomore album.
Short review: Although this is pop music, it is not something you would play at a party. There are no traditional hooks, melodies are not something you will remember right after hearing them. Just reading through the list of musical instruments played in this record gives certain expectations. There is french horn, the Moodswinger, not to mention less esoteric instruments like saxophone or clarinet. These leanings towards chamber music are present all through the album, and are put to best use right in the middle - the most eerie and rememberable song Canary.
The Luyas are into art, and this is very theatric, mood album.
